Model European Parliament 4 ECS


MEP4ECS is an immersive simulation of the European Parliament designed for Early Career (Geo)Scientists who are interested in engaging at the science–policy interface. Developed through an EGU Special Activity Funds call, the initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of early career researchers to translate scientific knowledge into policy-relevant dialogue. Participants will experience how European climate and environmental policies are debated, negotiated, and shaped.

What to Expect

Over two and a half days, participants will take part in a structured European Parliament simulation and :

  • Assume institutional and political roles
  • Debate and negotiate policy proposals
  • Translate scientific evidence into policy language
  • Engage in committee-style discussions and plenary exchanges
  • Visit the European Parliament

The programme combines interactive training, collaborative learning, and practical policy engagement.

Who Is It For?

Early Career Scientist who:

  • Are European Geoscience Union Members
  • Have a strong interest in climate and environmental policy
  • Are motivated to engage in a hands-on science–policy simulation
  • Have good working proficiency in English

The programme welcomes participants from diverse backgrounds and encourages inclusive representation across disciplines and career paths.

Participation & Grants

Thanks to the support of EGU, partial participation grants are available. The grant is partial and includes:

  • Accommodation in a shared room for the duration of the programme
  • All training activities
  • Educational and simulation materials
  • Participation fees

Please note that travel costs and additional personal expenses are not fully covered.
